U.S. INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS TO BE SPOTLIGHTED IN OAS ART EXHIBITION

  July 3, 2002

The United States' 226th anniversary of independence will be commemorated at the Organization of American States with an art exhibition that opens July 4, Independence Day.

Ambassador Roger Noriega, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the OAS, will inaugurate the 23-piece "Tropical Colors," a show spotlighting the critically-acclaimed painter Lilia Lazo, whose works have been widely exhibited across the USA since the early 1960s. The formal opening will be followed by an Independence Day reception at the OAS' Hall of the Americas.

An actress and writer as well, Lazo has been hailed for the unpretentious nature of her subjects, many drawn from episodes of her childhood, set against vividly depicted landscapes with the surrounding landscape.

Lazo's work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at such U.S. galleries as The Kimberly Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; Schweyer-Galdo Galleries of Morristown, New Jersey; Melzer Gallery in New York City; and Embassy Gallery in Coral Gables, Florida.
