Environmental and Capacity Building Assessment

 of Free Trade  in Panama

The magazine "Puentes entre el Comercio y el Desarrollo Sostenible" (Bridges between Trade and Sustainable Development), a joint publication between the International Institute for Commerce and Sustainable Development and the International Center of Economy Policy for Sustainable Development of the National University of Costa Rica, released an article which reviews the “Environmental Assessment and Institutional Capacity related to free trade in Panama.”

This article analyzes the possible effects of commercial liberalization on the environment in Panama. It also emphasizes on critical areas of environmental management.

The article highlights Panama’s progress in the strengthening of a national system of environmental management in order to fulfill existing legislation.
