The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Michel Sidibé, in his office in Washington, DC.

During the meeting, Director Sidibé told Secretary General Insulza about the work of the organization he leads, which unites the resources of its Secretariat and ten organizations of the UN system to unite, in a coordinated and responsible manner, worldwide efforts in the fight against AIDS.

The OAS leader explained the efforts that the hemispheric body is carrying out through the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) regarding HIV-AIDS education. In this regard, the two agreed on the need to strengthen ties and explore the possibility of joining forces.
