Saint Lucia Assumes Chair of the OAS Permanent Council
The Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the Organization of American States (OAS), Elizabeth Darius-Clark, today assumed the rotating Chair of the Organization's Permanent Council for the next quarter.
Ambassador Darius-Clark announced that procuring access to their rights for citizens of the Hemisphere will be one of her priorities during her tenure. "Saint Lucia is taking up the role of the Chair of the Permanent Council during a hectic period, which requires great vigilance and our deliberate preoccupation and focus on ensuring that we continue to deliver on our mandate of creating more rights for more people," added the diplomat from Saint Lucia.
For her part, the outgoing Vice Chair of the Permanent Council and Permanent Representative of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Lou-Anne Gaylene Gilchrist, highlighted the continuing nature announced by the representative of Saint Lucia to lead the Council during the first half of 2022. "Ambassador Darius-Clark comes to the Chair with experience in diverse areas, including diplomacy, and has given her pledge to give continuity to the thematic areas addressed by the outgoing Chair, Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis, Warren Hull," added the Ambassador of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
St. Kitts and Nevis will also serve as the Council's rotating Vice Chair until June 30.
