The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met Wednesday with the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, during his visit to the country to attend the inauguration of the Colombian leader for his second term.

During the meeting, the two discussed the OAS Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP/OAS), the current status of the peace negotiations, and the next Summit of the Americas to be held in Panama in April, among other issues.

Following his meeting with President Santos, Secretary General Insulza reiterated that “we support the peace negotiations, and although we strongly reject some actions that have taken place in recent days that have affected civilians, we continue to believe that the road to peace is the correct path and should continue.”

The OAS leader emphasized that any observation of the international panorama leads to the clear conclusion that “there is no other opinion than full support for the efforts of President Santos to achieve peace.”
