OAS Secretary General Met with Former President of Guatemala Álvaro Colom

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with former Guatemalan President Álvaro Colom, who visited him the day before the inauguration of the Forty-Sixth Special General Assembly that will take place tomorrow in Guatemala City.

The two officials discussed general issues related to regional policy, as well as the main focus of the hemispheric meeting on drugs, which will bring together in the Guatemalan capital city the foreign ministers of the OAS member states.

They also discussed the activities of the Electoral Observation Mission that the OAS will deploy for the October 12 general elections, for which the Secretary General appointed, to head the Mission, former President Colom.
