OAS Secretary General Meets with President of Guatemala's Supreme Electoral Tribunal

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the President of Guatemala's Supreme Electoral Tribunal, Rudy Marlon Pineda Ramirez. To be held tomorrow in Guatemala is the forty-sixth special session of the OAS General Assembly, dealing with drugs.

The two officials discussed implementation of the project "Strengthening the Citizen Identification Systems of the National Registry of Persons (RENAP) and the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE)," which was launched last week with a view to the general elections slated for 2015 in the Central American country. This OAS Secretariat for Political Affairs project is being implemented jointly by the Universal Civil Identity Program of the Americas (PUICA) of the Secretariat's Department for Effective Public Management and the Technical Cooperation Section of the Secretariat's Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation.

Secretary General Insulza and President Pineda Ramírez discussed the Organization's electoral observation work as well.

Also present at the meeting was the OAS Secretary for External Relations, Ambassador Alfonso Quiñonez.
