Peru today signed the Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination, and Related Intolerance and the Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance, in a ceremony at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington DC.

The Permanent Representative of Peru, Ana Rosa Valdivieso, said the protection and defense of human rights are a priority for her country. ”The fight against discrimination and the protection of the most vulnerable populations are inescapable commitments for our states. That is why it is a special pleasure to have the opportunity to sign on behalf of Peru the Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination, and Related Intolerance and the Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance,” said the Peruvian diplomat.

For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted the policies to fight discrimination carried out by Peru. “The signing of the two Inter-American conventions by Peru is a demonstration of its commitment to fighting racism, discrimination and intolerance. Peru has a legal framework in favor of equality and non-discrimination toward its citizens,” said Almagro.
