The Permanent Observer of Azerbaijan to the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Yashar Aliyevm, today presented to the Secretary General of the hemispheric organization, José Miguel Insulza, a contribution of $25,000 designated for OAS programs.

During the ceremony, the Secretary General thanked the government of Azerbaijan for the donation, which he said “is very welcome for the purposes of our Organization.” For his part, the representative of Azerbaijan highlighted the importance that collaboration with the OAS has for his country, “a young state, but one that is expanding its relationship with the Americas.” The OAS Peace Fund and the Inter-American Children’s Institute (IIN) each will receive $10,000, and Americas Magazine will receive $5,000.

This is the first financial donation that the government of Azerbaijan awards to the Organization since it became a Permanent Observer in 2001.

The ceremony took place in the office of Secretary General Insulza in Washington, DC.
