Cristina de Borbón, Infanta of Spain, today unveiled the commemorative plaque marking the restoration of the Statue of Isabella I of Castile found in the façade of the Main Building of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC.

Present during the ceremony, held in the context of the commemoration of “Discovery of America: Encounter of Two Worlds,” were the Secretary General of the OAS, Jose Miguel Insulza, OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin, and diplomatic missions accredited to the organization.

The statue of the queen was donated by the Spanish government to the hemispheric organization on April 14, 1966. Its restoration relied on the support of the Spain-USA Foundation.
