OAS Secretary General Meets with President of Costa Rica

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met this morning with the President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, to hear background information on the situation between that country and its neighbor Nicaragua. The Costa Rican leader expressed her Government’s point of view on the situation between both Central American countries in the border zone of the San Juan River. Secretary General Insulza has said that his objective is to open a space for dialogue between the Governments of Costa Rica and Nicaragua so they may search for points of rapprochement.

President Chinchilla was accompanied by the President of the Legislative Assembly, Luis Gerardo Villanueva; the President of the Judiciary, Luis Paulino Mora; the First Vice President of the Republic, Alfio Piva; the Minister of Foreign Relations and Religion, René Castro; and the Minister of Security, José María Tijerinos. The Secretary General was accompanied by his political advisor Dante Caputo.
