The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Minister of National Security of Trinidad and Tobago, John Sandy, in his office in Washington, DC.

During the meeting, the two high-level officials explored possibilities for increasing collaboration between the OAS and the Caribbean country’s Ministry of National Security, and addressed issues of common interest, such as prevention, reintegration and rehabilitation in public policies that fight criminal activity; violence against women; illegal trafficking in firearms; and organized crime.

Secretary General Insulza offered Minister Sandy all of his support and that of the Organization in the fight against crime in his country and in the search for solutions to this problem, one of the most significant affecting the entirety of the countries in the hemisphere.
