OAS Secretary General Meets with the Coordinator for the Sixth Summit of the Americas

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today met with the Coordinator for the Sixth Summit of the Americas, Ambassador Jaime Girón, as part of the preparations for the meeting of presidents and Heads of State of the Americas to be held in April, 2012 in Cartagena, Colombia.

Ambassador Girón informed the highest representative of the OAS on the progress made so far in preparation for the Summit and the steps to follow during the negotiation process that just began. The two senior officials took the opportunity to discuss regional issues on the agenda that could be reflected in the declaration of the Sixth Summit.

At the meeting, held in Washington, DC, the Colombian representative thanked Secretary General Insulza for his support of the Summit process and expressed his intention to continue working closely with the OAS to facilitate communication during the negotiation process between the states.
