OAS Secretary General Meets with Chair of the Dominican Republic’s Electoral Board

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Chair of the Electoral Board of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Rosario Marquez, at Organization headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Dominican official thanked Secretary General Insulza for the support the hemispheric institution, through its Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO), gave to the Caribbean country’s Board in its electoral reform project, cooperation that resulted in a document containing proposals to be submitted to the Dominican Republic National Congress. The process included a consultation with the Dominican political parties to know their understanding of the matter.

The meeting was attended by Eddy de Jesús Olivares, Magistrate of the Central Electoral Board; Joel Lantigua, Director of Elections of the Central Electoral Board; the Permanent Representative of Dominican Republic to the OAS, Ambassador Roberto Saladin Salin; and the Director of the OAS Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation (DECO), Pablo Gutierrez.
