About 70 interns from throughout the Americas, seven from Europe and four from South Korea are participating today and tomorrow in the XI Model of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), which on this occasion will focus on the theme: “Youth Approaches to Equitable Economic Growth and Inclusion in the Americas.”

The Model Programs of the General Assembly and the Permanent Council, organized by the OAS Department of International Affairs, is designed to promote democratic values among the youth of the Hemisphere through simulation exercises of the OAS main political bodies, in which students represent each of the Organization’s Member States. Students discuss, negotiate and approve resolutions related to the main issues of the Inter-American Agenda.

The interns’ participation in the Model Permanent Council complements the experience gained in the various technical areas of the organization with a hands-on experience in the functions and work of the political bodies of the Organization. The XI Model was inaugurated by the Chair of the Permanent Council and Representative of Guyana to the OAS, Ambassador Bayney R. Karran.
