Authorities of the Organization of American States (OAS) bid farewell today to the former Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, the recently-designated Foreign Minister José Valencia, in a ceremony at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted the work of Minister Valencia in the Organization, and wished him success in his new position. “For me personally, and for all the OAS authorities, it has been a pleasure to work with you in the ongoing effort to address the challenges of the Hemisphere and of our Organization,” said Almagro.

For his part, Foreign Minister Valencia expressed the ongoing commitment of his country to the ideals of the OAS, and his confidence that “the challenges facing the hemisphere will be overcome with dialogue and respect for the identity of nations, and that disagreements will be solved with respect for human rights and democracy.”
