HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OPENS NEW SESSION ON MONDAY

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights will open its 127th regular period of sessions on Monday, February 26, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS).

OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza will speak at the opening ceremony, along with the President of the OAS Permanent Council, Ambassador María del Luján Flores, and Commission President Evelio Fernández Arévalo.

During the two-week session, which continues through March 9, the Commission will consider petitions, cases and precautionary measures, as well as reports on a number of human rights issues.

The opening session will be Webcast live (www.oas.org).
