OAS TO HOLD FORUM TO ADDRESS POVERTY ISSUES IN THE REGION

  April 6, 2005

The Organization of American States (OAS) will host a meeting of international experts on Friday to discuss key issues related to trade, debt, and financing and the impact the burden of debt service brings on poverty across the hemisphere.

The meeting, a direct mandate from the 34 ministers of foreign affairs of the OAS member countries, is being organized by the OAS Permanent Council and the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI), a body which promotes cooperation and the fight against poverty.

The forum will include speakers and panelists from international organizations and the private sector and will be broadcast live on the Internet (www.oas.org).
