OAS TO HOST PRESS ROUND TABLE ON ILLEGAL DRUG TRADE IN THE HEMISPHERE

The Organization of American States (OAS) will host a Press Round Table this Friday, November 13, to discuss illegal drug use and drug demand reduction efforts in the hemisphere in the context of the Forty-Sixth Regular Session of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD 46).
Round Table speakers will be José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS; David Johnson, Assistant Secretary of State of the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs; and Dr. Thomas McLellan, Deputy Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
The officials will deliver brief remarks and take questions from the press. The Round Table will be held at 11 a.m. in the San Martin Room of the OAS Main Building.
The Forty-Sixth Regular Session of CICAD will be held November 18-20 in Miami, Florida. The United States is nominated to chair the commission in the year ahead for the first time in CICAD’s 23-year history.
CICAD’s mission is to strengthen the human and institutional capacities of its member states to reduce the production, trafficking and use of illegal drugs, and to address the health, social and criminal consequences of the drug trade.
