OAS Co-organizes Meeting in Cali to discuss the Future of Radio Communications in the Americas

Government delegates from OAS member countries and representatives of the telecommunications industry will meet from April 8 to 12 in Cali, Colombia, in the XXI Meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee II of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) of the OAS to discuss issues such as the situation and analysis of frequency bands in the Americas for the provision of more and better radio services, the digital dividend and the formulation of guidelines and strategies for spectrum management, among other topics.
The meeting will continue the work of the preparatory course of study for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 - WRC -15. In this scenario, the Permanent Consultative Committee II, which is currently chaired by Colombia, promotes the planning, coordination, harmonization and efficient use of the radio spectrum, as well as and orbits of geostationary and non-geostationary satellites, necessary for the provision of radio services including broadcasting and mobile broadband, mobile telephony, 4G technology and digital television.
The opening of the event will be held on Monday, April 8 at 9:00 local time (14:00 GMT) in the Centro de eventos Valle del Pacífico de Cali, and will be attended by the Minister of Information Technologies and Communications, Diego Molano Vega; the CITEL Executive Secretary, Clovis Baptista; and approximately 200 international delegates. Prior to the event, on Sunday, April 7, CITEL will hold a seminar on 'fixed and mobile satellite services' which will include issues related to new satellite technologies, applications and new and emerging services such as fixed satellite services (FSS), mobile satellite services (MSS), broadband programs, and regulatory considerations for the use of satellite services in the Americas region. This seminar will be attended by telecommunications regulators, satellite operators, satellite service providers, industry associations and the university sector in the region of the Americas.
