OAS Organizes Roundtable on Challenges and Opportunities of Climate Change for the Americas

The 59th Policy Roundtable of the Organization of American States (OAS) will be held on June 17 at 15:00 EDT (19:00 GMT) at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC under the title “Policy Dialogues on Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities for the Americas.”

Vicente Barrios, Co-Chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will present the V Assessment Report on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability during the Roundtable, which will be inaugurated by the OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza.

Next, the Permanent Representative of Peru to the OAS, Juan Federico Jiménez Mayor, will deliver and address titled “From Science to Policy: Good climate governance to achieve the objectives of sustainable development.” The Roundtable will also include a discussion panel including the Permanent Representative of Guyana to the OAS, Bayney Karran; the Executive Vicepresident of the National Council on Climate Change of the Dominican Republic, Omar Ramirez Tejada; the Director of Climate Change Research at the Mexican National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change and Member of the IPCC, Cecilia Conde; and the Director of the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS and Co-Chair of the CARICOM Working Group on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Cletus Springer.

The panel will be moderated by Max Campos, Chief of the Integrated Water Resources Management Division of the OAS and IPCC Member; and Claudia de Windt, Chief of the Environmental Law, Policy and Good Governance Section in the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS.
