OAS Secretary General Visits Honduras to Discuss Issues of Justice, Industry and Migration

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) will travel to Honduras Monday July 14 on an official visit in which he will meet with the country’s leaders, take part in an international conference on migrant children and the inauguration of an ethanol plant.
On the afternoon of Monday the 14th, in Tegucigalpa, Secretary General Insulza will take part in the First Meeting of Judicial Facilitators, together with authorities of the judicial, executive, and legislative branches of the Central American country. Magistrate Tomás Arita, acting President of the Judiciary will chair the event, in which one hundred facilitators will take part and some 40 regional judges taking part in the program. Ministers, representatives of the diplomatic corps, human rights organizations and other representatives of Honduran civil society will take part. The meeting will be held at the Hotel Plaza Juan Carlos de Tegucigalpa at 14:30 local time (20:30 GMT).
On Tuesday the 15th, Secretary General Insulza will meet with a group of judicial facilitators in Talanga, Departamento Francisco Morazán. The meeting will take place at 6:30 local time (12:30 GMT). Afterwards he will travel to Catamaca, Departamento de Olancho, where at 10:00 local time (16:00 GMT) he will inaugurate, together with the President of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, the first ethanol plant in the east of the country, at the installations of the National Agricultural University. The plant aims to broaden the cooperation on biofuels in the Hemisphere, and benefits from the technical assistance of the OAS, and the support of the governments of Brazil and the United States.
On Wednesday the 16th, the OAS leader will attend, together with President Hernández, the International Conference on Child Migrants, in which they will address the problem and solutions to the humanitarian emergency currently affecting tens of thousands of children in Central America. The First Lady, Ana de Hernández, who directs the working group monitoring the issue of child migrants, will take part in the conference. The event is organized by the Foreign Ministry of Honduras and UNICEF, and will include the participation of commissioners of human rights, and public defenders from Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador. The event will begin at 9:00 local time (15:00 GMT) at the Hotel Honduras Maya de Tegucigalpa.
