Experts and Authorities to Discuss "International Migration in the Americas" at the OAS

  December 9, 2016

In the framework of the commemoration of International Migrants Day, the Organization of American States (OAS) will hold a debate on Tuesday, December 13 at 14:30 EDT (18:30 GMT) on the situation of migration in the Americas.

The event seeks to analyze responses to questions such as: Why is migration increasing in the Americas? Why is migration of health professionals increasing? What is the unemployment rate of emigrants from the Americas in their destination countries? among others. The discussion will be based on the report and the updated overview that the OAS and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have published on the subject.

The dialogue will be moderated by the Executive Vice President of the Woodrow Wilson Center, Andrew Selee, and will feature the participation of:

• Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States.
• Marcelo Pisani, Regional Director for Central and North America and the Caribbean, International Organization for Migration (IOM).
