OAS Hosts Dialogue with New Actors in Regional Cooperation
August 5, 2013
The Inter-American Cooperation Network (CooperaNet) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will host tomorrow, Tuesday, August 6, a dialogue entitled “Exploring the Role of New Actors in Cooperation” in Washington DC with the goal of helping network members identify the role, experiences and impact of the private sector in their national cooperation agendas from the perspective of demand.
More than 20 delegations of member states, together with representatives of regional and international organizations and members of academia will discuss, analyze and provide specific examples about the role of the private sector in the development agenda. The event, held with the financial support of the Canadian government, was designed taking into account the recommendations of the network members, to support knowledge exchange amongst the national cooperation authorities with non-governmental actors.
They will analyze issues of "inclusive ownership" - a concept that promotes the equitable sharing of control over development programs among actors according to their participation for the development of the knowledge society; the role of the private sector in guaranteeing “inclusive ownership” for development in a middle-income country; the challenges for development in a middle-income country; and the contribution of the private sector and its ability to engage in dialogue with other development actors.
