Mayors of the Americas to Hold Debate on Security in the Cities of the Continent

Three capital city mayors in the Americas will participate in the Organization of American States (OAS) Lecture Series of the Americas, titled, “Perspectives from City Hall: Better Cities for Better Lives,” on Tuesday, September 14.

The fortieth edition of the Series will feature a presentation by OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin and speakers Oscar Luis Castañeda, Mayor of Lima, Peru; Desmond A. McKenzie, Mayor of Kingston and Saint Andrew Corporation, Jamaica; and Enrique Peñalosa, former Mayor of Bogotá, Colombia. The event will be held at 15:00 EDT (19:00 GMT) in the Hall of the Americas at Organization headquarters in Washington, DC.

The Lecture Series of the Americas is organized by the Department of International Affairs of the OAS Secretariat for External Relations with the support of the University of San Martín de Porres in Lima and the governments of Spain, Morocco and the Republic of Korea. It was created in 2004 through a resolution of the OAS Permanent Council to promote the democratic values and principles of the countries of the hemisphere, and it focuses on the key issues on the hemispheric agenda, such as the strengthening of democracy, human rights, hemispheric security and social development.
