CICAD Celebrates 50th Regular Session in Argentina

The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) will celebrate its 25th anniversary during its 50th regular session, to be held in Buenos Aires from November 2nd to the 4th.

During the meeting, the countries of the Americas will debate issues related to demand reduction, money laundering, chemical substance and pharmaceutical product control, maritime drug trafficking, the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism, and the current state of the global drug problem and its future challenges, among other subjects on the agenda.

The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, will participate on Thursday the 3rd in a private lunch with delegation members, an opportunity in which he will analyze the evolution of policies developed in the region in the fight against drug abuse.

Delegations from 34 OAS Member States will participate in the event. The inaugural session, which will be open to the press, will feature the participation of the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Argentina, Alberto D’Alotto; the OAS Secretary for Multidimensional Security, Adam Blackwell; and CICAD Chair Chandrikapersad Santokhi of Suriname.

At the event’s conclusion, a press conference will be held at 14:00 local time (17:00 GMT) in the San Martín Palace.
