OAS Presents Study, “Migration and Social Security in the Americas”

The Organization of American States (OAS), jointly with the Inter-American Center for Social Security Studies (CIESS), the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will present via videoconference a study, titled, “Migration and Social Security in the Americas,” on Wednesday, November 24, at 14:00 EST (19:00 GMT) in the Sir Arthur Lewis Hall (TL-76) of the OAS General Secretariat building (1889 F St. NW, Washington, DC, 20006).

The document, prepared by the Organization through its Migration and Development Program in the Department of Social Development and Employment of the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI), jointly with CIESS, ILO and IOM, has as its final objective the search for concrete and feasible solutions for the protection of migrant workers, as well as the development of public policies and bilateral agreements that contribute to migrants’ access to social security throughout the continent.

The videoconference will include presentations by Ambassador Mauricio Cortes Costa, OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development; Francisco Pilotti, Director of the OAS Department of Social Development and Employment; Araceli Azuara, Coordinator of the OAS Migration and Development Program; Ambassador Oscar Maúrtua de Romaña, OAS Representative in Mexico; Juan José Zermeño and Miguel Ángel Fernández Pastor, of CIESS; Germán López, of the ILO in Mexico; and Juan Artola, Director of the IOM in Argentina.

The report will be released to the press during the event and participants will be available to answer questions.
