OAS Secretary General Demands Return of Passports of Venezuelan Legislators Dávila Barrios and Florido

  February 8, 2017

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, today demanded that Venezuelan authorities restore the rights of Venezuelan legislators William Dávila Barrios and Luis Florido, who were denied the ability to leave the country through the annulation of their passports.

“We condemn this attack on parliamentary immunity and demand the full exercise of the rights of the Venezuelan Assembly members,” said the leader of the hemispheric Organization.

Secretary General Almagro concluded by affirming that “these lawmakers legitimately elected by the people enjoy parliamentary immunities granted by the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, that are being violated by national authorities.”
