  March 17, 2005

The Acting Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luigi R. Einaudi, said that the Organization is following closely the developments in Bolivia and hoping for openings that will lead to a peaceful resolution of that country’s political and social challenges within the framework of the Constitution.

“At this moment, when the Bolivian government and Congress are negotiating laws and political agreements of great importance for democratic stability and the country’s progress, my hope is that Bolivia’s leaders, who are responsible for the state’s institutions, will find appropriate responses to the challenges facing the country, in accordance with the democratic vocation of the people of Bolivia and the principles of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, to which Bolivia and the other nations of the OAS subscribe,” Einaudi stated.
