OAS General Secretariat and Honduras Hold Working Meeting

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, received on Wednesday, October 17 Luiz Antonio Marrey, Spokesperson of the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH), who delivered the fifth semi-annual report of the Mission.
Moreover, the Secretary General, the Spokesperson of the MACCIH-OAS and officials of the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy of the GS/OAS today held a working meeting with various authorities of the Honduran Government, including representatives of the executive branch, the Congress, the Secretariat for Development and Social Well-being, the Attorney General's Office, the Office of the Public Prosecutor, and the Supreme Court of Justice.
During the meeting, the Secretary General highlighted the importance of the joint collaborative work that has been carried out with Honduran institutions aimed at fighting corruption and impunity, and said "in the end, the fight against corruption depends on the Honduran people."
At the meeting, agreement was also reached to resume meetings between the Government of the Republic of Honduras and the OAS General Secretariat, and that the presentation of the Fifth Semi-Annual Report of the MACCIH to the OAS Permanent Council would take place during the first half of November 2018.
Over the next few days, the Spokesperson of the MACCIH will hold meetings with representatives of civil society organizations, ambassadors to the OAS, and officials of the United States Congress.
