  December 7, 2011

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, strongly condemned today the murder of the Honduran journalist Luz Marina Paz Villalobos and her assistant, which took place on Tuesday in the capital of Honduras.

The head of the OAS expressed concern for the violence against members of the press in the Central American country, and added that “attacks against this trade ultimately affect Honduran society as a whole in the exercise of the rights to freedom of speech and information.”

Secretary General Insulza asked that these brutal murders be thoroughly investigated and punished to the full extent of the law.

Furthermore, the head of the OAS sent his condolences to the relatives of the journalist Luz Marina Paz Villalobos and the newspaper La Tribuna, where she worked.
