  April 11, 2015

The Latin American Business Council (CEAL) recognized the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin “for building bridges to promote prosperity and competitiveness in the Americas through public-private interlocution,” in an event held in the context of the CEOs Meeting at the Summit of the Americas, held this week in Panama.

The President of CEAL, Ingo Ploger, and the President of the Panamanian chapter of CEAL, Juan Carlos Fábrega, invited Latin American businesspeople to witness the act of recognition. The Secretary General-elect of the OAS, Luis Almagro, also participated, and committed himself to continue strengthening public-private dialogue in the context of the OAS.

Assistant Secretary General Ramdin expressed his gratitude for the recognition and expressed in his acceptance speech that “the future of the democracies depends on the level of collaboration between governments, civil society and the business community.” He added that “this collaboration is necessary to respond to the challenges of creating more decent jobs, increasing productivity, expanding markets and investing in technologies and human capital.”

For his part the President of CEAL International Ploger said the organization “is an important vehicle to strengthen the democratic bases of our region.” He added that “we firmly believe that the constant interaction between the public and private spheres is a catalyzer for healthy governance in our countries, reducing social inequality and, definitely, generating progress for our nations.”

Representing the Panamanian chapter of CEAL, Juan Carlos Fábrega congratulated the OAS for promoting initiatives that foment public-private dialogue to create a positive impact in the socio-economic development of the region.

The OAS and CEAL signed a cooperation agreement in 2012 on the occasion of the Sixth Summit of the Americas.
