OAS Secretary General Laments Death of Chilean Marine in Haiti

  April 14, 2015

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, deeply lamented the death of the Chilean Marine Rodrigo Sanhueza and asked the Government of Haiti to carry out an exhaustive investigation into the events that surrounded his passing.

In addition to expressing his concern over the violence that can accompany the massive demonstrations in the Haitian capital – during one of which Sanhueza died -, the leader of the hemispheric Organization expressed his conviction that the government of President Michel Martelly will take the necessary measures to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Secretary General Insulza sent his condolences to the family of the Chilean soldier who was working with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and praised the role of the Mission in the reconstruction and consolidation of the democratic institutions in the Caribbean country.
