OAS Mission in Paraguay Urges High Participation in Tomorrow's Elections

  April 20, 2013

The Electoral Observation and Accompaniment Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Paraguay, led by the former President of Costa Rica and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Óscar Arias, is calling for high participation by the country's citizens in tomorrow's elections.

The Mission wishes to highlight the work done by the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) to comply fully with the activities in the electoral calendar. The Mission also would like to note the openness of the electoral authority, which gave full access to observers and political parties during the different stages of the organization of this election and sought to properly resolve concerns that were raised. The Mission notes that throughout the process the TSJE has worked closely with representatives of political parties to make ??the necessary adjustments to ensure the transparency of the election, including those aspects that contribute to the effective implementation of the system of Transmission of Preliminary Electoral Results.

Finally, the OAS Mission urges the public to await the results of the election with patience and respect, while reminding political parties, and the Paraguayan people in general, that the TSJE is the only competent authority to deliver the results.
