OAS Secretary General Closes the TIC Competition in Bolivia
June 1, 2012
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States, (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, closed the Bolivian National Talent and Innovation Competition (TIC Bolivia) at a ceremony announcing the winners of this project, which promotes and awards young Bolivian entrepreneurs and their business initiatives.
At this event preceding the OAS General Assembly session, held at the Hotel La Colonia in Cochabamba, the Secretary General pointed to the creativity of the young participants. He said “this type of activity is what truly makes our countries develop and do so in a sustainable way.”
The Secretary General said “the future is here, not only in young people but in innovation, talent, the capacity to create new things in this world.” He added that, although not every participant could win an award, “just the fact that they are here is important; our experience tells us that most of the entries presented at this competition are viable business proposals.”
Roy Thomasson, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), the nonprofit, OAS-affiliated agency that organizes the competition, expressed his admiration and respect for the young entrepreneurs in attendance. He thanked the Government of Bolivia and the OAS for helping to make this event possible. He added that the YABT had just turned 13 and remained “convinced of the value of young people’s ideas.”
The 20 competition finalists were chosen to participate in the two-day exposition, in which their business proposals were rated by an expert panel.
The winners in the three award categories were:
- Best Economic Impact Award: Recicla Arte y Madera
- Best Social Impact Award: EducaTIC Bolivia
- Best Environmental Impact Award: HEVEA
The judges also recognized three additional proposals for their enterprising spirit:
