OAS Assistant Secretary General and Honduran Tourism Minister Discuss the Importance of Tourism Sector

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, met today with the Minister of Tourism of Honduras and President pro-tem of the Central American Tourism Council, Nelly Jerez Karina Caballero, who reiterated Honduras’ commitment to the OAS to serve as host of the 21st Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High-level of Tourism Authorities, which will take place in 2013.
During the meeting, Assistant Secretary General Ramdin highlighted the growing importance of the tourist sector for the economies of the region, and called on authorities in the sector and business representatives of Central America to participate in the next regional Tourism Congress, which will be held from September 11 to 13 in Quito with “Conscientious Tourism” as its central theme.
The high-ranking OAS official emphasized the importance of collaboration between the countries of Central America and the Caribbean, and that they work together toward greater integration in tourism, eliminating visa requirements and promoting air and sea connectivity between the two subregions.
