OAS Secretary General Visits El Salvador

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will travel tomorrow to El Salvador, in response to an invitation from President Mauricio Funes to visit the Central American country.

The leader of the OAS, who will stay in San Salvador a little more than 24 hours, will be received by the Salvadoran chief executive and by Foreign Minister Hugo Martínez. He will also meet with the President of the National Congress, Sigfrido Reyes, and with the military bishop of El Salvador, Monsignor Colindres.

During his stay in San Salvador, Secretary General Insulza will visit a penitentiary to gather information on the gang phenomenon, an area in which the OAS is carrying out several actions in support of the government, designed to seek solutions to the crime problem.
