Insulza Applauds Blocking of Disputed Parts of Arizona Law

  July 28, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today welcomed the decision by a federal judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, Susan Bolton, to block the most controversial aspects of the Arizona immigration law.

Insulza said that "it is not for me to comment on the rulings of national courts of law, but I have always said that it does not seem fair to me to criminalize people for seeking a better way of life and not to acknowledge that their efforts contribute daily to the growth of this great country."

The Secretary General of the OAS concluded by stating that "let's hope that in the next few months we see initiatives that address this serious problem in a more complete and just way."
