OAS Assistant Secretary General Ramdin: Trafficking in Persons A Scourge

  August 27, 2010

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, applauded judges, law enforcement officers, attorneys and government officials participating in an OAS course dealing with the issue of trafficking in persons for their commitment to the elimination of this issue. The training course, in San Salvador, was organized by the OAS Department of Public Security.

Ambassador Ramdin called for participants to continue their efforts to raise awareness of the issue among legislative bodies and society, in general. “Without these efforts, the scope of this scourge will not be fully appreciated. Development of quantitative information and the sharing of same are essential components of this fight,” he said.

Ambassador Ramdin also encouraged participants to incorporate issues of treatment along with the focus on enforcement. “The victims cannot be lost in the equation as we go after the perpetrators of trafficking.”
