Peru will host Assembly of Delegates of the OAS Commission of Women
December 18, 2015
The 37th Assembly of Delegates of the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the OAS will be held from May 24 to 25, 2016, in Lima, Peru, according to an agreement signed by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ana María Sánchez.
CIM’s Assembly of Delegates is held every three years with the participation of ministers and high-level authorities responsible for women's rights and equality from 34 member states of the Organization. The last Assembly took place in San José, Costa Rica, in 2012.
The Assembly, which will be held in Peru in 2016, will consider and discuss gender issues, establish the 2016-2018 Work Plan of the Commission of Women, and identify areas of work between the OAS and national, regional, and international institutions in the field of gender.
Secretary General Almagro commended the good will of Peru towards the Organization since, over the past year, that country held the ministerial meetings on security and justice. Lima also hosted in 2015 the Conference of the States Parties to the Follow-up Mechanism to the Convention of Belém do Pará (MESECVI), which is why the Secretary General underscored “Peru’s commitment to advancing inclusive gender policies in the Americas and to our Organization.”
