OAS Permanent Council Hears Reports and Continues Work on Prioritization of Mandates

  October 17, 2013

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today held a regular meeting in which permanent representatives heard a report of the activities of the Office of the Inspector General for the second and third quarters of 2013, and continued with the analysis of the work to sort and classify the mandates of the OAS, and considered the draft guest list for the Fourth Meeting of Ministers of Public Security of the Americas, to be held in Colombia in November.

The meeting established the details necessary to continue the work that the various committees of the Council are doing to organize and classify the mandates assigned to the Organization, and clarified that the result of this work will be referred to the Permanent Council and will serve as input for the further prioritization and classification of mandates.

The meeting was also an opportunity to remind participants about the event that will take place on October 28 at the headquarters of the hemispheric organization to commemorate the Tenth Anniversary of the Special Conference on Security, sponsored by the Government of Mexico.

The Council observed a minute of silence in honor of the former Deputy Prime Minister of Jamaica, Seymour Mullings, who died recently and who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade and as his country's Permanent Representative to the OAS.
