OAS Permanent Council Submits 2013 Budget to the General Assembly

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today agreed to submit to the General Assembly of the hemispheric organization the budget proposal of the General Secretariat for the year 2013. The highest body of the OAS will meet tomorrow, Thursday, November 15, at 11:00 EST (16:00 GMT) in Washington, DC, to consider its final approval.

The budget proposal agreed to today by the Permanent Council was arrived at by the Member Countries in the negotiations carried out by the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs (CAAP) and provides to the General Secretariat a total of $83.870 million.

During the session of the Permanent Council, the Chair of the CAAP and Permanent Representative of Canada, Allan Culham, and the representatives of Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, the United States, Brazil, Peru, Saint Lucia (on ​​behalf of CARICOM), Barbados and Panama all took part.
