OAS Secretary General Expresses Outrage over Murder of Venezuelan Congressman

  October 3, 2014

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today expressed his profound outrage over the assassination of Venezuelan Congressman Robert Serra and his partner, María Herrera. “This horrible crime against a young couple, cherished by their people and respected for unwaveringly defending their ideals, must not go unpunished,” he said.

“We condemn such senseless violence and fully support the efforts of the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to find and exemplarily punish those who committed this cowardly attack,” added Secretary General Insulza.

Similarly, the head of the OAS sent to “the families of Robert and María, his co-workers in the National Assembly, his party’s colleagues, as well as all Venezuelans our heartfelt condolences on the early death of this young leader and his partner,” he concluded.
