OAS Assistant Secretary General Meets with Government Officials in Canada

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, met with representatives of the government of Canada during a two day visit to Ottawa last week.

The visit included meetings the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs); the Director General for Canada’s Latin America and Caribbean Bureau; officials of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA); the Director of Canada’s Hemispheric Affairs and Haiti division; the Political Director for International Security, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and several others.

During the meetings, the high ranking OAS official discussed the collaboration between the hemispheric entity and the government of Canada as well as cooperation on the Haiti portfolio. Talks were also held on the current developments and challenges in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Assistant Secretary General Ramdin expressed his desire to see the relationship of the OAS with Canada strengthened, adding that, “Canada has always been a valuable partner and we appreciate their efforts and commitment to the Americas.”

While in Canada, Assistant Secretary General Ramdin also addressed students and faculty at the University of Ottawa and participated on in a round table discussion on the OAS-Canada relationship.
