The Organization of American States (OAS) acted as a witness to the signing of the Commitment to Transparency and Access to Public Information that was signed today, International Anti-Corruption Day, by the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador for the period 2014-2019, Norman Quijano, Salvador Sánchez Cerén and Elias Antonio Saca González.

Among the main points of the agreement are the commitment of the presidential candidates to respect the commitments, principles and purposes established by the Law on Access to Public Information; to manage public funds in a transparent manner; and to require that ministries comply with the Law on Access to Public Information and provide the information requested by citizens in a timely and accurate manner. In addition, they undertake to promote the strengthening of the Institute for Access to Public Information, guaranteeing its independence and providing an adequate operating budget.

Meanwhile, the Institute for Access to Public Information agrees to comply with the obligations established by the Law on Access to Public Information and provide advice on policy developments in the field.
