OAS Secretary General Congratulates the Prime Minister of Dominica on Election Victory

  December 11, 2014

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today congratulated the Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, and the Dominica Labour Party, on their victory in the General Elections of December 8, 2014.

In a letter sent to the newly re-elected Prime Minister, Secretary General Insulza called the electoral victory a “confirmation of the confidence which the people of Dominica have in your visionary leadership,” and commended the Prime Minister for his “willingness to work constructively with the expanded opposition in the new Parliament.”

The OAS leader wrote that on Election Day, “from all indications, Dominicans were able to exercise their civic responsibility in a free and fair manner and voting took place in a calm and dignified atmosphere.” “This is a tribute to the culture of democracy for which your country as well as your CARICOM partners are well known,” he added.

In the conclusion of the letter, Secretary General Insulza pledged the support of the OAS and its readiness “to work with you in advancing Dominica´s economic and social development.”
