Colombia Offers to Host the Ministers of Justice Meeting in 2015
December 20, 2014
The Government of Colombia has offered to host the Tenth Meeting of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA X), which is expected to take place in the second semester of 2015.
The offer to host REMJA X was communicated officially by Ambassador Andrés González Díaz, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the OAS, by a note sent on December 18 to the Secretary General of the Organization, José Miguel Insulza.
The Meetings of the Ministers of Justice of the Americas is the premier policy and technical forum at the hemispheric level in relation to policies of justice and legal cooperation.
Since its creation in 1997, these ministerial meetings have generated concrete and useful results for the countries, such as institutions to support justice reform in the region, the Justice Studies Center for the Americas (JSCA), as well as inter-American treaties and legal instruments, and networks for the exchange of information and practical cooperation between the authorities of OAS member states in different areas of legal cooperation.
At REMJA X, it is expected, among other things, that the Ministers define concrete actions to strengthen cooperation among states on access to justice policies, a topic considered crucial for strengthening and consolidating the rule of law in the region.
