OAS Secretary General Expresses Condolences for the Death of Former Prime Minister of Belize

  September 21, 2011

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, has expressed to the Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow, his condolences and those of the organization he heads for the death of that country’s former Prime Minister, George Cadle Price.

“Mr. Price will be well remembered for his relentless efforts in Belize ’s struggle for self-determination and its quest for political independence,” Secretary General Insulza wrote in a letter to the Belizean leader. “Indeed, his unwavering commitment to dialogue and negotiations successfully led to Belize ’s Independence on September 21, 1981 and his becoming the country’s first Prime Minister on this date.”

The head of the OAS added that, “Along with other political leaders, former Prime Minister Price also paved the way for Belize ’s membership in the family of the Americas." "The former Prime Minister was an ardent supporter of regional integration,” he concluded.
