OAS Organizes Best Practices Workshop in Bogota on Cyber Security and Cyber Crime for Governments of the Americas

The Organization of American States (OAS), though the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE), will organize a workshop on best practices in cyber security and cyber crime this November 28-30 in Bogota for representatives of the Governments of the Americas. The event will be held in coordination with the Working Group on Cyber Crime of the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or Other Ministers or Attorneys General of the Americas (REMJA) and the Department of Justice of the United States.
Officials from all OAS Member States, as well as more than 30 experts from around the world, will meet in the Colombian capital for a discussion on current initiatives and challenges in information sharing and coordination between domestic authorities, including national Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and law enforcement agencies. The first day will consist of a joint session, after which the participants will be divided into three groups to focus on more specific issues.
The first group will focus special attention to policy matters related to national, regional, and international cooperation, CSIRT development, and national cyber security strategies. The second group will discuss the legal and law enforcement aspects of cyber security and cyber crime. Lastly, the third group will participate in a two-day technical exercise simulating a cyber incident that would require a multinational response, which will be developed by technical personnel from OAS Member States. The first two groups will be led by experts and will feature presentations followed by discussions on best practices and efforts currently being undertaken in cyber security.
