The Region’s Commitment to the Rights of Older Persons

The Americas became the first region in the world to have a binding instrument to promote and protect the rights and freedoms of older persons. The adoption of the Inter-American Convention on Protecting the Human Rights of Older Persons at the General Assembly of the OAS in June 2015, demonstrates once again the leadership of the region in the field of international law, setting a historical precedent and a benchmark for the work undertaken in other instances and regions for the protection of human rights. » Read more.

Innovation in Education highlighted at Virtual Educa Mexico

OAS Welcomes partners from the Mobiles for Education Alliance   The XVI International Virtual Educa Symposium concluded in Guadalajara, Mexico on June 26, after five days of exchanges on innovation in education in the region. More than 13,000 participants took part in the event, including senior management of education systems from 17 countries and 28 parliamentarians from 11 countries of the Americas; as well as educators, students, representatives of the public and private sectors, and experts from Latin America and the Caribbean. » Read more

Cooperation in social protection: exchanging experiences, expanding opportunities

As part of a regional effort to improve energy efficiency in CARICOM member states, the Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology and Public Utilities (MESTPU) of Belize has partnered with the OAS Department of Sustainable Development, and in cooperation with the OAS Belize Office, launched the “Standards and Labelling” component of the Energy for Sustainable Development in Caribbean Buildings Project (ESD) during an event held from June 30 to July 2, 2015.
